About

I got a fancy camera. I’m not a photographer in any sense of the word, I rarely use the camera that I have on my phone, and I don’t particularly care for getting my picture taken. When someone does demand my presence on the business end of a lens, be it for their amusement, a time-honored tradition at a family event, or my wedding, I am adamant that I be allowed to make a silly face.

Prior to the birth of my daughter, the sum of the pictures that I had taken for any purpose beyond utility numbered in the tens. It’s not at all that I don’t appreciate the art of photography. On the contrary, there have been a few times in my twenty-nine years that I have been nearly brought to tears by a powerful snapshot. I think its more that the hobby/profession has this deterring initial commitment of both money and time that discourages those with a mere casual interest. Sure you can get by with a cheap “Point and Shoot” but I am not one to begin something only to look for the nearest corner to cut.

So why this blog? For me it is simply an outlet for pent up creativity. I have been looking for an excuse to spend more time writing but I have found the “engaging topic of which I am moderately informed” to be an elusive creature. I had a decision to make: remain ever patient, waiting for the right idea to strike, or push forward and make something from nothing. I chose the latter. So I am going to write things and there will more than likely be pictures.

What I’m really trying to say is that my name is Dakotah, I am a 29 year old married father, and I just got a fancy camera that I don’t know how to use.

A wild Dakotah appears
This is my face
